Govt urged to adopt ADB’s recommendations on water system

ISLAMABAD: The traders’ body of the federal capital has asked the government to adopt the suggestions presented by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on water system of the country.

Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Patron Shahid Rasheed Butt, in a statement, said that implementation of the recommendations in the report, which covers issues from glaciers to reservoirs and even drainage system, can resolve many pressing issues to ensure economic returns.

He said that immediate action on the report which has not seen light of the day for two years is needed for improving the quality of life of masses, revival of industry, saving lives, increasing productivity and ensuring prosperity.

The resolution of the energy crisis that has paralysed the economy also lies in implementation of the recommendations of the report, he said. The efforts of over a dozen world-class experts spanned over a year should not go waste due to political considerations, he emphasised.

Butt said that government can ask foreign experts to re-examine some points of the report which are seen difficult to implement at this point in time, however, the authorities should not sit on the report.
