LAHORE: The flour millers have demanded the government to release wheat for controlling the rates of flour.

This demand was raised by former Pakistan Flour Mills Association chairman and Wheat and Flour Committee of FPCCI chairman Dr Bilal Sufi, in a statement. He said that the constant increase in flour prices is a result of manipulation of wheat hoarders over policy of issue of wheat to flour mills by food department.

Dr Bilal said that he had been demanding the govt to concentrate on disposal of 4.9 million tons of wheat. He said wheat rates in open market have been raised with a design to facilitate hoarders of wheat and now Pakistan Flour Milling Association is misused as a shield to increase rates of flour.

The former PFMA chairman suggested to the Punjab government to issue govt wheat immediately at Rs 1250 per 40 kg if they want to maintain old rates of flour. He said that food department’s delay was a conspiracy which has worked and now chief minister Punjab should think and take notice of it at once otherwise hoarders will further damage government’s image in Punjab.
