SIALKOT: The auction policy of non-customs paid and smuggled mobile phones was not declared by the government as yet and the Customs Department is bearing losses worth billions of rupees annually.
Sources told Customs Today that all customs collectorates have confiscated a large number of non-customs paid and smuggled mobile phones from various airports of the country. Sources said that these mobile phones are still in the custody of the customs collectorates and locked in stores while the prices of these mobile phones are decreasing day by day.
Sources said that the Customs department is bearing loss of billion rupees due to no auction of these confiscated mobile phones per annum. Sources told huge quantity valuable mobile phones are included in these confiscated mobile phones and these confiscated mobile phones have already in the record of all Customs collectorates of the country. Sources told that government has already declared that confiscated mobile phone will auction to concern companies of dealers of mobile phones but the government has not announced any policy for this purpose.
Sources said the customs department has sent recommendations to the government two years ago but government has not considered these recommendations which was sent by Customs department. Sources told until the government will not consider the recommendations of customs department and will not announce policy of auction of confiscated mobile phone then the auction of these mobile phone will not be conduted. Sources said that about 200.000 seized mobile phones are in the stores of all customs collectorates in the country and their price is decreasing day by day
When contacted Deputy Collector Muhammad Hanif Khan said that recommendations have sent to government about announcement of auction of confiscated mobile phones but government reply is still awaited. He said it is true that the customs department is bearing loss of billion rupees due to no auction of these mobile phones, therefore, government should announce police as soon as possible
