Govt. will revive sick units to stablize economy: Khurram Dastgir

ISLAMABAD: The Commerce Minister Eng. Khurram Dastgir asked the members of the delegation of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to provide the Ministry with complete details of the closed units and the number of employees which were rendered out of work due to the closure here the other day.

He said the details about ill units will help the government to devise policy to solve the problems of the business community.

Mr Dastgir promised the delegation that he will leave no stone unturned to revive the sick units to enhance the textile exports by $1 billion creating more than one hundred thousand new jobs.
He said that the Government has been seeking help of private sector devise a strategy to make the closed textile units working again. “To improve the financial condition of owners of sick units, commerce ministry will seek State Bank of Pakistan and other ministries’ help in issuing debt on trouble-free conditions,” he added.

He said that Moody’s International has upgraded Pakistan’s credit rating from negative to stable due the adequate performance of Government on economic fronts, which is a significant achievement.

The Minister said that Pakistan has been getting $ 4-5 from one kilogram of cotton but the Government is planning more than $15/ kilogram through value-addition to our cotton.

The Members of FCCI informed the minister that sick units are made functional it will create thousands of opportunities for unemployed youth and will also help to recover the confidence of international customers which have started importing from the other markets.
