ISLAMABAD: The federal government recorded a sharp rise in non-tax revenue during the last fiscal year, with earnings surging by Rs1,998 billion—mainly driven by a massive jump in petroleum levy collections and the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) profit transfers.

According to official documents, non-tax revenue climbed to Rs4,959 billion in the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a significant increase from the previous year.

This windfall was led by a record Rs1,220 billion collected through the petroleum levy alone—an increase of Rs201 billion compared to Rs1,019 billion in the previous year.

The government has projected even higher collections this year, estimating Rs1,468 billion in revenue from the petroleum levy, indicating a further Rs248 billion increase.

The Ministry of Finance revealed that the petroleum levy has been gradually increased, with current rates reaching up to Rs78 per liter on petrol and diesel. This includes a newly introduced Climate Support Levy of Rs2.50 per liter, expected to bring in Rs48 billion this year.
