Grand Theft Auto V turns No 1 in UK sales chart

LONDON: Grand Theft Auto V is now number one in both UK charts, as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker falls out of the top 40 after just one week.

Although the PlayStation 4 version has been number one for weeks, and the last gen versions for even longer last year, this is only the fifth time Grand Theft Auto V has been at the top of the UK all formats chart. Given it’s the best-selling (and fastest-selling) game of all time in the UK that alone tells you how poor a picture of sales the all formats chart can give, but this week at least GTA V is number one in both top 40s. That’s unsurprising given there were no major new entries last week, and that once again the new year sales seem to have made little impact – apparently confirming reader reports that the deals this year have not been as generous as usual.

In fact the only unusual movement in the whole chart is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on Xbox One, which got a boost thanks to a new hardware bundle.

Since there are still no new releases scheduled for this week there’s likely to be even less change next week, although even then the first major launch of the year is the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V on January 27. That’s not counting the fumbled Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, which after just one week in the charts completely fell out of the individual formats top 40 and dropped as low as number 40 in the all formats chart.
