NEW YORK: A commercial fisher has become the first person to be banned from fishing in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park under three strikes legislation.
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) banned the fisher for two years after they were caught fishing in a no-take green zone on three occasions.
Failure to comply with the ban can result in a fine of up to $85,000.
The GBRMPA would not provide any details about the nature of the offences.
