GREECE: Greece’s Heraklion Port wins two environmental awards. A ceremony at Athens Concert Hall Megaro Moussikis announced awards in different categories. Heraklion Port won a gold prize in Sustainability & Operations category for “Recycling – Liquid & Solid Waste Management” and a Silver Prize in category of Strategy & Innovation for “Tourist Period Extending Initiatives”.
Ioannis Bras, president and managing director of the port said, “Heraklion is both a strategic East Mediterranean cruise port and a vital coastal shipping hub that links Crete to the mainland and the Aegean Archipelago,”.
He added “many small and large projects that will materialize in the coming period, most are aimed at further improving passenger services, as well as enriching overall tourist experience. More integrated port features will be added to provide useful information and new opportunities to interact with the destination. We are determined to continue with the effort that we began in 2010”.
