Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds Toyota Hilux Surf

SIALKOT: Gujranwala Customs Intelligence and Investigation has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Hilux Surf worth Rs 1 million on Grand Trunk (GT) Road near Wazirabad.

Reportedly, under the strict directions of Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood, Deputy Director Muhammad Anwar deputed Inspector Majid Raza Shah on GT Road to check the vehicles. The said inspector along with his team members constables Riasat, Riaz etc checked many vehicles at GT road and intercepted a Toyota Hilux Surf which was playing on road without paying customs duty.

The team asked the driver Shafique about customs clearance documents bet he remained failed to show the documents regarding the customs clearance. The inspector impounded the vehicle and shifted to the office compound of Customs Intelligence of Gujranwala. The team impounded the vehicle Toyota Hilux Surf worth Rs 1 million and registered a case against unidentified owner. However the team released driver after proper interrogation and team will issue a legal notice to real owner of vehicle to proceeding of case and verification of vehicle.

An official of Customs Intelligence told Customs Today that the campaign against smuggling was in full swing which was bringing positive results. He added that the department was striving to trace the networks in region involved in smuggling causing loss to national exchequer. The supply of smuggled items in local markets also imposed negative impacts on local traders.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has instructed the Customs Intelligence to tighten noose around the smugglers, he said, adding that the department will take extra measures to eliminate the menace of smuggling.
