Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impound Honda Civic worth Rs 1.2m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded a non-duty paid Honda Civic Model 2003 worth Rs 1.2 million from Grand Trunk (GT) Road Rahwali, Gujranwala Cantt.

Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood directed Superintendent Rauf Farooqi to take stern actions against the smuggled goods and vehicles under the anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Following instructions, Customs Intelligence Superintendent Rauf Farooqi ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar to constitute a team for checking of vehicles on GT Road in order to impound the smuggled vehicles.

However, the deputy superintendent and his team comprising Intelligence Officer Syed Majid Raza, Constables Asad Raza, Mubashir, Boota and others started checking of vehicles when it intercepted a car, Honda Civic Model 2003 and asked the driver named Nazir to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicles but he could not produce the same.

The team impounded the vehicle worth Rs 1.2 million under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act, 1969 against the accused person, while the driver was released after proper interrogation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs Intelligence has tightened noose around the smugglers, especially around the vehicles’ smugglers in the region.
