Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds Honda Civic worth Rs 2m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala impounded a non-duty paid Honda Civic car worth Rs 2 million during a raid.

Following the strict directions of Customs Intelligence Director General Shaukat Ali, the officers and officials are making good performance to curb smuggling of goods and vehicles, officials said.

Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan directed Superintendent Tariq Rqfique and Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar to constitute a team to impound smuggled vehicles. The officials formed a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Syed Majid Raza Shah, comprising Constables Sajid Raza, Mubashir and Boota and others to check vehicles in Sambrial.

The officials checked various vehicles and intercepted a vehicle Honda Civic bearing Registration No VG-792-ICT model 2006. The team asked driver to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicle, but he could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle under the customs laws and shifted it to state warehouse. The driver of the vehicle was release after interrogation, besides issuing a notice to owner of the vehicle. It is learnt that the vehicle is owned by a bureaucrat.

Officials said that the Customs Intelligence will register a case against the accused person and send it to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. They added that the department will auction the impounded vehicle, if case is decided in favour of the department.

Office Superintendent of department Sajjad Rubbani told Customs Today that the department has tightened noose around the smugglers, adding that fruitful results were being observed due to enhancing vigilance.
