The officer along with his team comprising Constables Mubashir, Usama, Boota, Sajid Raza and others started checking of vehicles when a vehicle Honda VTI car bearing Registration No IDM-2306 ICT, Model-2002 was intercepted.

The team asked driver named Rasheed to show documents regarding legal import of the items, but the driver failed to produce the same. Therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle worth Rs 1.5 million under the customs laws, but released the driver after proper interrogation.

It was said that the driver tried to influence the customs officials by saying that the said vehicle was owned by a political person, but the officials taking legal action impounded the vehicle. The team will register a case against owner of vehicle and referred the case to Customs Adjudication for further hearing.

Officials said that the vehicle will be set on auction if decision was announced in favour of the Customs Intelligence by the adjudication authority.

Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi told that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has instructed the department to take action against non-duty paid vehicles, which are playing on roads freely. He added that intelligence teas were working round the clock to curb smuggling of goods and vehicles through this region.
