Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds vehicle worth Rs 8m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala impounded a non-duty paid car worth Rs 8 million from a show room during a raid.

Reportedly, Director General Shaukat Ali has strictly instructed all officials that so many vehicles are plying on roads without payment of customs duty and these vehicles should be impounded in order to recover legitimate revenue.

Following the instruction of DG, Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan has directed all officials in Gujranwala region to launch crackdown against the smuggling. Superintendent Tariq Rafique instructed Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar to constitute a team in order to visit vehicles’ show rooms.

The deputy superintendent constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Syed Majid Raza, comprising Sepoy Usman, Sajid Raza, Mubashir and others to impound non-duty paid vehicles from show rooms.

The team checked documents of vehicles regarding to chassis, engine numbers, etc and found a vehicle bearing Registration No BDV-884 which was non-duty paid.

The team asked show room owner to show documents regarding customs clearance, but he could produce the same; therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle under the customs laws and issued show cause notice to the owner.

The team will also register a case under custom laws and refer the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings. The customs will auction the vehicle if the decision is announced in favour of the department.
