Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles, items worth Rs 24m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala has impounded non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 15 million and miscellaneous items worth Rs 9 million during June and July 2016.

Under anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), officials of the Gujranwala Customs Intelligence conducting raids in the region to curb smuggling and illegal trade in order to save the national economy.

Gujranwala Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood is supervising the working of the officials, while Superintendent Chaudhary Muhammad Akmal, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar, inspectors including Syed Majid Raza, Mian Muhammad Yousaf and Agha Naseem Shah, constables Riasat, Shoukat, Iqbal, Arfan are also performing their duties round the cloth to curb smuggling in Gujranwala Region.

During the raids, the department impounded six non-duty paid vehicles out of which four has been auction for Rs 6 million. The officials recovered ply wood sheets worth Rs 6 million from a godown of Malik Shabbir located near Wazirabad. A case has been registered against the accused person under the customs laws.

The officials also confiscated smuggled Iranian dried fruit, black tea, cloth and other various items worth Rs 9 million while checking of vehicles on roads and General Bus Stand.

Superintendent Sajjad Rubanni told Customs Today that the performance of Customs Intelligence remained much better during June and July. Superintendent Chaudhary Muhammad Akmal said the performance of officials was very satisfactory in two months.

On the other hand, Customs Intelligence Director Saud Imran and Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood hailed the performance of officials concerned to curb smuggling.
