SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala confiscated 4,230 yards of smuggled cloth worth Rs 4.5 million during checking at Gujranwala General Bus Stand.
On the directions of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan, Superintendent Tariq Rafique constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Nasarullah to conduct checking at the bus stand under the anti-smuggling campaign.
The said intelligence officer along with his team member, including constables Usama, Mubashir and Sajid Raza raided the bus stand and recovered 4230 yards of imported cloth. When the team asked bus stand manager about owner of the cloth, he said that the cloth was loaded from Faisalabad and offloaded at the Gujranwala while no one has contacted to collect the cloth so far.
It is learnt that the owner of the recovered item is a shopkeeper of cloth market in Gujranwala, but the owner did not approach to get his cloth after getting information that it has been confiscated by the customs officials.
The Customs Intelligence team confiscated the cloth considering it smuggled one as no one could produce documents showing its legal import and shifted the cloth to customs store room.
The team has challaned the bus driver and will issue legal notice to bus stand managers of Faisalabad and Gujranwala. The team will register a case against the suspects under Customs Act, 1969 and send the case to Customs Adjudication for initiating legal proceedings in the case.
Officials informed that Gujranwala Customs Intelligence was taking stern actions against the smugglers in region following the directions of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan.
