Gujranwala Customs Intelligence seizes Iranian black tea, dried fruits

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, has recovered smuggled Iranian black tea and dried fruit worth Rs 100,000 from a van during an action.

Reportedly, following the directions of Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood, Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi formed a team under the supervision of Investigation Officer Nasaraullah.

The said investigation officer along with his team members, including Usama, Sajid, Mubashir, Boota and others started checking of vehicles on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

The team checked several vehicles meanwhile it intercepted a van which was coming from Rawalpindi and going to Lahore. The team searched van and recovered Iranian black team and dried fruit. The team asked the driver named Rasheed to show documents regarding legal import of the items and booking paper of recovered items but he failed to produce the same. The team confiscated all items and shifted to the state warehouse.

However, the Customs Intelligence released driver after proper interrogation, besides serving notice on Rawalpindi Van Stand manager. The case has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Officials informed that the department was taking stern actions against the smugglers in region as vigilance has been enhanced on roads to bust smuggling attempts. They added that all possible measures will be taken to save the national kitty.
