Following instructions, Customs Intelligence Superintendent Rauf Farooqi ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar to constitute a team for checking of vehicles on GT Road in order to impound the smuggled vehicles.

However, the deputy superintendent and his team comprising Intelligence Officer Mian Muhammad Yousaf, Constables Asad Raza, Mubashir, Boota and others started checking of vehicles when it intercepted a van which was coming from Rawalpindi.

The officials recovered packets of black tea from the van. The team also asked the driver named Asghar to show documents regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials confiscated the items worth Rs 100,000 under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act, 1969 against the accused person, while the driver was released along with vehicle after proper interrogation. The case has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
