SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, has confiscated Iranian origin smuggled nylon rope and cloth worth Rs 150,000 during an action on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.
Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood directed Superintendent Rauf Farooqi to take stern actions against the smuggled goods and vehicles under the anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Following instructions, Customs Intelligence Superintendent Rauf Farooqi ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar to constitute a team for checking of vehicles on GT Road in order to impound the smuggled vehicles.
However, the deputy superintendent and his team comprising Intelligence Officer Mian Muhammad Yousaf, Constables Asad Raza, Mubashir, Boota and others started checking of vehicles when it intercepted van bearing registration number PRA-231-A-KPK which was coming from Peshawar and going to Lahore.
The officials recovered Iranian origin nylon rope and cloth from the van. The team also asked the driver named Nawaz to show documents regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same.
Therefore, the officials confiscated the items worth Rs 150,000 under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act, 1969 against the accused person, while the driver was released along with vehicle after proper interrogation.
Investigation Officer Mian Yousaf told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling campaign was in full swing in the region, as the officials are working round the cloth to curb smuggling.
