Gujranwala Customs starts crackdown against illegal cigarettes’ sellers

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation of Gujranwala Region raided various shops and confiscated smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 75,000.

According to details, Superintendent Customs Intelligence Muhammad Rauf Farooqi got information that shopkeepers are selling banned cigarettes as like More, Dunhil, Pine and Indian Beri etc. The superintendent formed a team under the supervision of Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Mian Muhammad Yousaf. The said IO and his team, including constables Mubashar, Boota and Asad Raza, raided various tobacco shops and checked all brands of cigarettes.

During the searching of the shops the team recovered smuggled and banned cigarettes from several shops under the value of Rs75,000. The team challaned of shopkeepers and warned them if they will sell next time non-duty paid cigarettes the depart take strict action against them. It is learnt that the department will forward challan to Adjudication Court and Court will fix the fine amount. After the fixing of fine amount the department will send notice to shopkeepers for payment of fine amount within seven days and if any shopkeeper will fail to pay fine amount then the department l take strict legal action against him as like seal his shop or his arrest.
