Gujranwala Tax Directorate starts crackdown on tax defaulters, recovers Rs 10 million

SIALKOT: – Regional Tax Directorate Gujranwala has started sending final recovery notices to all the big and chronic tax defaulters including traders, industrialists, importers and exporters in Gujranwala Region’s all the six districts, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala for the recovery their prolonged outstanding arrears (worth of Rs 1.5 billion) in shape of sales tax and income tax till June 30th, 2015  before the end of current fiscal year.

According to the senior FBR officials, the above mentioned chronic defaulters were reluctant to deposit their outstanding arrears, as they are defaulter of Rs 1.5 billion in income tax and sales tax categories.

Now,  the FBR has further tightened its rope around these big defaulters, as the Chief Commissioner Mansur Ahmed Bajwa has constituted special recovery teams   directing them to ensure full recovery of dues till June 30th, 2015.

Meanwhile, the special FBR teams led by Commissioner Irfan Raza has already freeze bank accounts of as many as eighty small and big tax evaders in Gujranwala region and has transferred Rs 10 million to FBR accounts from these freeze accounts of tax defaulters.

The senior FBR officials added that the FBR had also halted the sale and purchase of as many as 8 different plots in a big housing colony near Gujranwala Cantt, as the owners of these plots were defaulters of Rs. 3.5 million in shape of different taxes and they had not yet cleared their outstanding dues despite the repeated recovery notices issued by FBR, in this regard. These eight plots would soon be auctioned by the FBR for recovering their outstanding dues.

FBR has also issued the arrest warrants of 15 other chronic defaulters, besides, giving a week-long special deadline for the clearance of their outstanding arrears.
