The PCA has issued show cause notices to several importers after detecting mis-declaration and under-invoicing by misusing the SROs on the import of various consignments, he said.

The department also detected tax evasion on the import of polyester film, batteries and calcium carbonate while scrutinising the data of different importers during the said period.

The PCA director further said that the department in its limited resources and shortage of manpower was determined to highlight the tax evasion and mis-declaration in the imported consignments.

“The process of detecting the tax evasion will be continued till the end of the current fiscal year 2015-16, as the department is endeavoring to collect evaded duty/taxes”, the director added.

It is important to mention here that Director Gul Rehman has instructed the authorities concerned of the department to expedite the process of scrutinising the post-clearance data in order to detect tax evasion.
