Gwadar Customs recovers non-duty paid cell phones, narcotics, liquor

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Gwadar has recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid mobile phones during an operation in the jurisdiction of Sardashti area. In another crackdown, the Customs team seized foreign origin liquor and narcotics.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received secret information that some smugglers are going to smuggle a huge quantity of non-duty paid cell phones. He immediately summoned deputy collector and instructed him to use all available resources to foil this attempt. The deputy collector constituted a team comprising Inspector Raheel Warsi, Inspector Imran Shah, Inspector Rana Shakeel and Inspector Dilawar Khan and others. The team established many pickets at main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of the vehicles.

During searching of passengers van Customs team noticed a suit case and obtained the key of suitcase from its owner who was identified as Mehboob Khan and opened the suitcase. During searching Customs team recovered 100 mobile phones which were tactfully hidden in the secret parts of the suitcase. The market value of each mobile is Rs40,000 and the actual cost of seized mobile phones is Rs4 million. Customs team arrested the owner of the mobile phones and registered a case of smuggling against him.

During another action which took place in Saroo area of Gwadar, Customs team seized huge quantity of foreign origin liquor and narcotics. Sources said that ASO authorities received secret information about smuggling of narcotics after which they enhanced checking in the area and started intercepting vehicles. During checking of a truck customs team recovered 50 kilograms of hashish and 120 bottles of foreign origin liquor. Customs team arrested all the five persons who were boarded on the truck. The market value of seized narcotics and liquor is Rs2 million. Customs team started investigations of the case.
