Gwadar Customs seizes contraband items, bus worth Rs 5.29m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate Gwadar has impounded a passenger bus loaded with smuggled goods worth Rs 5.29 million during an action.

According to the details, Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram received information that non-duty paid goods are being smuggled from Quetta to Karachi through passenger bus bearing Registration No BSA-462. In order to curb the smuggling, the collector directed Additional Collector Junaid Memon to launch an operation.

Following the directions, a team comprising Assistant Collector Kaleemullah, Superintendent Saleem Khokhar and others was made to thwart such a bid. The team remained in the field for two days and continued vigilance on RCD Highway.

As a result of such strategy, the officials intercepted a bus near FC check post and recovered non-duty paid items, including cigarettes, which were concealed in the specially designed cavities of the bus. The total value of the goods is estimated at Rs 2.99 million.

The officials also impounded the bus worth Rs 2.3 million and arrested two accused persons named Muhammad Ali (driver) and Sardar Muhammad (cleaner). The assistant collector said that FIR has been registered against the suspects and further investigation into the case is underway.

It may be mentioned here that Collector Saeed Akram following the directions of Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Zahid Khokhar has accelerated the anti-smuggling operations in the region. The Gwadar Customs seized smuggled goods worth Rs 12.87million which include smuggled diesel, tyres, rugs, crockery and cigarettes during August 2016.
