Gwadar Customs seizes contraband items worth Rs 70.53m in Sept: AC Tausif Gurchani

KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Gwadar has been making all out efforts to curtail smuggling of non-duty paid and contraband items in the area. Even on gazetted holidays officers and officials of the collectorate stay alert.

Assistant Collector MCC Preventive Gwadar, Tausif Aman Gurchani told that as a result of this strategy in the month of September, 2015 only the collectorate has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 70.53 millions.

All the dumping places on Hub Dhureji road including Baloch Para, Gareebabad, Noorabad, Mari Chowk and Karimabad and the dumping places like Mir Jan Depot, Mir Baloch Depot and Rehman City RCD Highway were raided and 174,000 liters of high speed diesel worth Rs 10.44 million was seized from these dumping places, he added.

Besides, eight vehicles carrying 331,000 litres of smuggled HSD were also seized in the road side seizures. Total value of HSD and tankers in these cases come to Rs 32.74 millions.

On September 24, 2015 an attempt to smuggle large quantity of liquor from Fujera to Kappar and Pasni area of Gwadar district was foiled in a joint operation with Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. In this operation 4,512 bottles of whisky and 9,408 cans of beer, valuing Rs 21.43 million, were seized along with the boat valuing Rs 5.00 million used for the transportation of these goods.

Three smugglers were also arrested in this case. In another operation on September 08, 2015 an attempt to smuggle large quantity of cigarettes and gutka was foiled and goods worth Rs 5.45 million were seized, the AC further stated.
