Gwadar Customs seizes silk fabrics, artificial jewellery worth Rs11.24m

GWADAR: The Customs Collectorate seized huge quantity of silk fabrics and artificial jewellery worth Rs 11.24 million on Monday morning.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Junaid Mehmood received secret information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non duty paid silk fabric and artificial Indian jewellery from Gwadar to Karachi.

After receiving this information, he constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Customs Preventive Inspector Shamim Khan, Zahid Shaikh and others. The team during a search operation near Exit Road to Gawadar city  intercepted a bus bearing registration no: NS-0923.

During a search, the team impounded 30,000 meters of silk fabrics and more than 100 sets of artificial jewellery valued at Rs 11.24 million including vehicle being used in smuggling.

The team seized all the smuggled items and arrested the bus driver and one another person, who were later identified Faheem Aiwan and Sultan Siddique. Sources told that customs team will register case of smuggling against the accused persons after investigation.

Source said it was the sixth raid during the month of July, Deputy Collector Junaid Mehmood has announced crackdown in sea area against smugglers, source said so many complain are receiving about smuggling in sea area (Jewani).
