Gwadar Customs seizes smuggled items worth Rs 8m

KARACHI: The Gwadar Customs Collectorate has seized a huge quantity of Iranian diesel and watches during two successful raids while it arrestedd six persons.

Collector Saeed Akrem received information that some elements were planning to smuggle non-duty paid watches from out of the city. On this, he informed the anti-smuggling team and instructed them to curb the smuggling. The team formed under the supervision of deputy collector included Inspector Shakeel Raza Khan, Inspector Ghafoor Shah, Inspector Asad and others.  The team established checkpoints at main entry and exit points of Jevani area and started checking vehicles.

During the checking of vehicles, the anti-smuggling squad intercepted a pickup and recovered 300 imported watches. The customs officials arrested three persons. The value of the seized watches is more than Rs 1.5 million.

In a separate action, the anti-smuggling squad seized 18,000 litre Iranian diesel. On special instructions of deputy collector the anti-smuggling team formed checkpoints in the area of Chati and intercepted a oil tanker. During the checking of vehicles the team recovered 18,000 litre smuggled oil. The team asked the driver for customs clearance documents but he remained failed. On this the team seized the oil and tanker. Officials said that the value of seized oil and truck is more than Rs 6.5 million.
