Gwadar Customs seizes smuggled watches, non-duty paid fridges

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Gwadar has recovered a huge quantity of smuggled watches and non-duty paid refrigerators during different crackdowns.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received information that some smugglers are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of imported watches outside Gwadar city.

He immediately formed a raiding team comprising Inspector Ghulam Mustafa Narejo, Inspector Ghafoor Shah and Inspector Asad Arain. The team established many check points on main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles. During the checking process, the team intercepted a coaster and recovered 500 imported watches which were being smuggled outside Quetta city.

Sources said that these watches were hidden in secret parts of the bus. No one claimed the ownership of watches. Customs team arrested the driver and conductor of the coaster and started investigations from them. It is necessary to mention here that each watch contains market value of Rs15,000.

During another operation customs team during routine road checking intercepted a truck and recovered 50 non duty paid fridges. The customs team asked the driver of the bus to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of loaded fridges but they failed to show any relevant documents. After their failure Customs team seized the fridges and arrested all the persons who were boarded on truck. Customs team registered a case of smuggling against them and started investigations.
