Gwadar I&I recovers smuggled goods worth Rs60m from passenger buses

GWADAR: Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) has seized huge quantity of smuggled miscellaneous goods worth Rs60 million from two passenger buses.

Sources said that in pursuance of a specific directives of Faiz Ahmed Director General I&I- FBR, the anti-smuggling efforts have been intensified and the crackdown against the passenger buses carrying smuggled goods has been initiated.

Based on the credible information shared by Director Tahir Qureshi, Deputy Director Amjad Rajpar advised ASO Incharge Hanif Kurd to keep strict vigilance.

Subsequently, the staff of I&I Gawadar intercepted two passenger buses and recovered huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled miscellaneous goods. Approximate worth of goods along with transporting vehicles is Rs60 million. The recovered goods have been seized. Further investigation is underway.

An official said DG I&I-FBR has given clear instructions that all buses should be checked based on information, and a rigorous campaign is launched against movement of smuggled goods.

Officials said I&I Gwadar is working in very unfavorable circumstances, as the formation is short of resources including officers, sepoys and vehicles. Besides, the smuggling networks are backed by influential persons.
