GWADAR: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has recovered contraband goods in seven different operations by intercepting five passenger buses and two Hino Titan trucks, which were found to be transporting betel nuts and other smuggled goods.
Sources told Customs Today that the operation was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence received from a Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA), indicating the movement of contraband items through passenger buses. With the support of the Frontier Corps, the Directorate conducted timely raids across various locations in the Hub district.
Director I&I Gwadar, Jamshed Talpur, and Additional Director Moen Afzal have been instrumental in intensifying surveillance and accelerating anti-smuggling efforts, leading to these successful seizures.
Details of seized goods are as under:
Bus No. JB-2258: Seized 3,830 kg of smuggled betel nuts, valued at Rs. 13.40 million, with the vehicle valued at Rs. 17 million, totaling Rs. 30.405 million.
Bus No. BSB-717: Recovered various goods including refrigerant gas cylinders, monosodium glutamate, and betel nuts, with a total value of Rs. 30.967 million, including the vehicle.
Bus No. BSC-963: Seized cloth, cigarettes, plastic shoppers, and betel nuts, with a total value of Rs. 21.07 million, including the vehicle.
Bus No. LES-8855: Seized printed ladies’ cloth, plastic shoppers, betel nuts, Indian gutkha, and cigarettes, with a total value of Rs. 30.76 million, including the vehicle.
Bus No. JP-8177: Seized 2,200 kg of betel nuts, with a total value of Rs. 22.7 million, including the vehicle.
Truck No. TLR-071: Seized 3,600 kg of betel nuts from a secret compartment, with a total value of Rs. 29.6 million, including the vehicle.
Truck No. LES-3562: Seized 160 cartons of Sweet Supari containing nearly 2 million sachets, with a total value of Rs. 35.968 million, including the vehicle.
The total value of the seized goods and vehicles is estimated to be over Rs. 200 million. This operation marks a significant achievement for the Gwadar Directorate in its ongoing efforts to curb smuggling.
