Gwadar Port collects Rs 1.654 billion customs duty against target of Rs 601.94 million in 2014-15

KARACHI: With its significant contribution to the national kitty, the Gwadar Port has proved that it will spur economic activities in the country as it has collected Rs 1.654 billion against the target of Rs 601.94 million customs duty which is 275 percent higher than actual target.

Sources told Customs Today that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had set Rs 601.93 million under head of customs duty for the fiscal year 2014-15.

However, with the continued efforts by the Chief Collector-Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem, some Rs 1.654 billion customs duty were achieved in fiscal year 2014-15, sources added.

In the fiscal year 2013-14, the FBR had set Rs 379.02 million as target for customs duty however the port last year too had collected Rs 477.71 more than the target, sources said. Interestingly, the MCC-Gwadar collected Rs 422.08 million duty in just one month i.e. June 2015.
