ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan said that the draft for Pakistan Halal Food Authority has prepared by the Ministry of Science and Technology in consultation with Ministry of Commerce and other relevant institutions and will be presented to the Parliament soon.
He said that approval of draft will resolve the issue of certification of Pakistani halal food and provide a new impetus to Pakistan’s food sector which has a great potential to enhance Pakistani products’ export to Middle East. The Federal Minister has revealed these information while meeting with the Pakistan’s ambassador designated for Australia Ms. Naila Chohan who will assume her new charge in September.
The Minister said that Pakistan wants that Australian companies would invest in halal food sector of Pakistan and bring latest technology and value addition to this sector. The Minister directed the newly appointed ambassador to establish close liaison with the Pakistani community settled in Australia and to seek proposals to enhance Pak-Australia trade which will be incorporated in the final strategy adopted by the Ministry of Commerce to expand Pakistan’s trade with Australia.
Ms Chohan said that twelve Australian companies will participate in the Expo Pakistan 2014 scheduled to be held in Karachi in October which will enhance the probability of their investment in Pakistan. She also praised upcoming Pak-Australia Joint Trade Commission meeting which will be held on 18th September in Australia and said that this will provide a great boost to bilateral trade. Ms. Chohan added that she would also hold meetings with Pakistani Chambers of Commerce and provincial Boards of Investment to understand the Pakistan’s trade and investment strategy with Australia.
Ms Naila Chohan informed the Commerce Minister that there were seventy thousand Pakistanis settled in Australia who were well educated and socially vibrant and can play a active role in bringing investment to Pakistan.
