Hammad Azhar plants sapling as part of Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Muhammad Hammad Azhar inaugurated “Plant for Pakistan Day” campaign by planting sapling in the vicinity of office building of the Economic Affairs Division to mark the formal launch of the “Urban Forestry” model as part of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme conceived by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Officers of the division also actively participated in the campaign by planting saplings to contribute in the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar stressed the need for the people to participate actively in the campaign to make the country green, neat and clean and to mitigate adverse effects of climate change, natural disasters and environmental pollution.

He said the trees not only beautify the environment but also keep the environmental conditions at moderate levels. Trees also conserve water, improve quality of air, preserve soil and support wildlife. He resolved to keep this campaign a constant and ongoing activity to preserve the existing plants and add more trees to the environment. He asked Economic Affairs Division to organize tree plantation campaign frequently and at a wider scale.
