Hammad Azhar to replace Dr Hafeez Shaikh as Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to remove Dr Hafeez Shaikh as Finance Minister and replace him with incumbent Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz has confirmed the development.

According to sources, the decision to remove Dr Hafeez Shaikh has been taken as part of another cabinet reshuffle. Prime Minister Imran Khan made this decision in an important meeting which was attended by Shibli Faraz, Moeed Yousuf, Zulfi Bukhari, Malik Amin Aslam and other leaders.

Sources said that Information Minister Shibli Faraz is likely to be given the portfolio of Petroleum Minister. There were also consultations on dividing the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting into two, with separate Ministers of State for both Information and Broadcasting. According to sources, further changes in the cabinet are also likely.

The meeting also considered proposals to strengthen the country’s narrative at the international level.
