LAHORE: Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz challenged the income tax notice of Rs 12 million by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Lahore High Court (LHC).
On 15-5-2019, a single bench of Lahore High Court comprising Justice Abid Eziz Shiekh heard the petition filed by the opposition leader in Punjab Assembly. Lahore High Court (LHC) has referred the case to division bench for hearing.
During the proceedings, Hamza’s counsel argued that his client was a registered taxpayer and always paid his tax without default. He submitted that the Inland Revenue department had issued a notice to his client for payment of Rs 12 million as income tax.
Counsel for appellant argued before the court that his client (Hamza Shahbaz) and his family deposited the taxes regularly without default any time. Even after filing tax returns regularly, Income Tax Commissioner sent him Rs12 million income tax notice without hearing his stance.
He pleaded the court to set aside the collection of income tax by the Inland Revenue as illegal till the completing of hearing of case in the court.
After hearing of case, Justice Abdi Eziz Shiekh remarked that single bench already rejected such type of appeal that is under proceeding before the division bench. So this case is now referred to the division bench for hearing.
