Haripur Customs Intelligence impounds Toyota Hilux worth Rs 1.3m

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Hilux 4-Runner worth Rs 1.338 million.

In pursuance of information received by Rawalpindi director, the Field Investigation Unit (FIU), Haripur, intercepted a Toyota Hilux bearing Registration No. KU-4276 (Sindh) near Talokar Road, Haripur.

The driver of the vehicle named Zaheer Gilani could not produce any legal document regarding payment of duty /taxes except a registration book. The officials impounded the vehicle under Section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969.

The staff sent request to the motor registration authority for verification of the registration book. The excise officials confirmed that the vehicle was not registered with the department and it was using fake number.

Later, the Customs Intelligence staff also checked import data but no any record was found. So, it was established that the vehicle was smuggled one brought into the country through an unauthorised route without payment of duty and taxes.

The case has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings.
