Haroon Akhter reviews pending cases in apex courts

LAHORE: Special Advisor to Prime minister Haroon Akhter Khan has presided over a meeting to review delayed cases in the Supreme Court and Lahore High Court.

All the chief commissioners of Lahore attended the meeting.  Chief Commissioner Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Chaudhary Safdar, Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office-I (RTO-I) Tasneem Rehman, Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) Khawaja Adnan Zaheer and senior officers of Customs and legal advisors of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) participated in the meeting.

Member Legal of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Muhammad Ali and the officers of Customs Preventive and Customs Appraisement and the Commissioners Inland Revenue (CIR) also participated in the meeting.

The senior officers of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) discussed the top 100 cases pending in the Supreme Court and Lahore High Court since five years. Due to litigation of these cases, billions of rupees’ recoveries are being delayed.

During the meeting, the chief commissioners Inland Revenues and the officers of Customs and lawyers briefed Haroon Akhter Khan on the status of cases in the court.

After a briefing to officers, Haroon Akhter Khan said the recovery of Rs200 billion is delaying due to the litigation, especially Rs50 billion from Lahore. He further said the FBR is going to formulate a policy for quick decision of the cases from different courts for the huge recovery within minimum duration.

Special Advisor to PM also reviewed the record from Regional Tax Offices, Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) and Customs as to how many cases are pending. Legal advisors also explained the reasons for delaying cases since long.
