Haroon to inaugurate 8th CHCA meeting today

ISLAMABAD: The 8th meeting of Customs Heads of Customs Administration (CHCA) of ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) member states will be held in Islamabad on Tuesday November 14 (today).

Special Assistant to Prime minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar will chair and address the inaugural session. The Customs delegates from seven countries including Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will attend the meeting of heads customs administration.

The meeting will focus on easing customs cooperation among ECO members including Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), implementation of transportation trust fund authority TTFA and etc.

ECO members will also negotiate on electronic exchange of customs information among ECO countries, establishment of ECO smuggling and customs offences data bank, agreement on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters and holding training courses for customs officials of ECO member states.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ECO is an inter governmental organization set up in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey, and later expanded to include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
