HC Barton assures UK stands by Pakistan in anti-terror fight

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Philip Barton said that the United Kingdom will continue to support IDPs (Internally Displace Persons) through World Food Programme and other UN agencies.

He said this while talking to Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar. The UK High Commissioner discussed matters of mutual interest with the Finance Minister.

He apprised the Finance Minister that the United Kingdom strongly supports Pakistan’s efforts in fight against terrorism. He said that the international community would provide necessary assistance to Pakistan to meet the challenges of huge internal displacement of people from the areas of operation. He added “we stand behind you in this struggle”.

The Finance Minister informed the High Commissioner that as a result of prudent economic policies of the present government, the economy is moving in the right direction. He said that after the first year of fire-fighting, the economy is now in a comfortable situation.

Senator Ishaq Dar also informed that there has been vast displacement of people from North Waziristan Agency and the Federal Government is fully determined to extend all humanitarian support to assist and rehabilitate the displaced persons. He said that more than half a million residents of the agency have been displaced and the government is utilising all available means to assist them.
