HERAT CITY: The first international Conference on the importance of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline will be held in western Herat province next month.
The deputy foreign minister of Turkmenistan said this during a meeting with Governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi in Herat City, the provincial capital.
A statement from the governor’s office said on Wednesday officials from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and tribal elders from Herat and Farah provinces also attended the meeting.
Rahimi admired the decision to arrange the conference and said the gas project was important for the economic development of Afghanistan. He stressed the early execution of the project.
During the conference, bilateral economic relations, sharing of experiences and further development of trade relations between the two countries would be discussed.
TAPI is a major economic project for gas supply from Turkmenistan to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan. It was formally launched last year.
