LAHORE: Commissioner Lahore Division, Dr Mujtaba Piracha on Wednesday said high rise buildings had become need of the hour for the city because of population increase and rising flow of people towards Lahore.
Chairing a meeting in Committee Room regarding high rise buildings perspective, ideas and prerequisites, he said, as per vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan mode of high rise buildings in the cities could save agriculture land around the city and green areas within the city.
He said vertical expansion was necessary and horizontal expansion of the city must be curbed through different strategies, change of bylaws, easing out process of NOC for construction, better traffic management, making every case process time bound etc. It was informed in the meeting that high rise buildings Act 2019 was in process of preparation.
Vice Chairman LDA, S M Imran said issuance of NOC was being made easy and time bound to attract business and high rise building investors. He said experts of all fields had been included in the planning of city master plan.
Mayor of Lahore, Col (R) Mobashar Javed said road capacity, traffic management, provision of sewerage, water, un-interrupted electricity supply and impact of socio economic elements were big challenges to deal while planning high rise buildings in the city.
CTO Lahore Captain (R) Liaqat Ali, Chief Architect Punjab Amina Nasim, DDS Housing Mumtaz Ahmed, DS Environment Rabia Mohsin and officers of CAA, WASA, Cantonment and Walton Boards, PHATA and other participated in the meeting.
