HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs yesterday detected a suspected case of smuggling at Man Kam To Control Point and seized 64 computer hard disks and 1 226 pieces of computer random access memory (RAM) with a total value of about $600,000.
Customs officers intercepted an unladen outgoing container tractor for customs clearance at Man Kam To Control Point yesterday evening.Upon inspection, officers found the batch of computer hard disks and computer RAM concealed inside the instrument panel in the driving compartment. The 45-year-old male driver was arrested.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
