HMV to launch in 80 Irish 142 Tesco stores

DUBLIN: HMV and Tesco Ireland have agreed a major deal that will see the movie and music retailer open concessions in 80 out of the 142 Tesco stores here by the end of the year.

HMV @ Tesco branded concessions will operate as standalone units within Tesco, offering music, DVD and games based on the stock in HMV’s own stores.

Hilco owned HMV’s sister business Xtra-vision, which specialises in the rental market, has already rolled out a partnership deal with SuperValu to place automated “entertainment kiosks” in 100 grocery stores across the country.

With both businesses owned by Hilco, Xtra-vision’s 51 stores now also feature HMV concessions and combined sales here hit €95.2m in 2014.
