SYDNEY: The Holden Captiva family range is the subject of a recall which has been recently announced in Australia because of a problem with its ignition.
The ignition switch recall is now affecting the Holden Captiva family. According to the car manufacturer, a recall has been already announced in Australia, for the Captiva 5 and Captiva 7, after a potential issue with the ignition has been noticed. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the vehicle has the potential to turn on its ignition without the driver input.
“If, when the vehicle is parked, the ignition key is left in the ignition cylinder, the manual transmission is left in gear and the park brake is insufficiently applied, the vehicle may move unintentionally when the starter motor cranks the engine”, says the ACCC.
The affected versions of the Holden Captiva are the Series 1 CG, which have been produced between the 22nd of February, 2007, and the 25th of November, 2010. The total number of affected units stands at 2,951 units and Holden has received no less than seven reports of engine self-cracking. However, no reports of injury or damage have been received. Owners of the above mentioned model will be contacted by Holden and the company’s dealers will be making the necessary repairs / replacements free of charge. The recall is expected to begin soon.
