NEW DELHI: Honda recalls a total of 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V and Civic manufactured between 2003 and 2007 to replace a faulty part in the passenger and driver side airbags from India. The recall, which is part of Honda’s global campaign of fixing potential defect related to airbags, would cover 10,805 units of premium sedan Accord, 575 units of sport utility vehicle CR-V and one unit of Civic sedan.
The company would carry out preventive replacement of passenger side airbag inflator of 575 units of CR-V manufactured in 2004 and driver side airbag inflator of 10,805 units of Accord manufactured between 2003-2007 as part of Honda’s global recall/safety improvement campaign concerning airbag inflators, HCIL said in a statement. Besides, the passenger side air bag inflator of one unit of Civic of 2004 make will be replaced, it added. The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India from June 4 in a phased manner, the company said.
In July 2014, HCIL had recalled a total of 1,338 units of Accord and CR-V manufactured between 2002 and 2003 to replace faulty inflators in the passenger side airbags. Later in October, the company had recalled 2,338 units of its hatchback Brio, compact sedan Amaze and CR-V manufactured between September 2011 and July 2014 to replace faulty inflators.
The recall in India comes a day after the Japanese company on Thursday recalled close to 5 million vehicles fitted with potentially faulty Takata Corp air bag inflators as investigations showed the problem behind one of the biggest auto safety crises may be more widespread than thought.
The latest move by Japan’s third-largest automaker brings the overall global total of vehicles recalled for Takata-related air bags to around 36 million since 2008.
Ever since Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety-related issues in India in July 2012, more than seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers in India.
