TAIPEI: “An expert of the Agriculture Council will make a one week visit to the Agrolibano farms from December 18 to the 22. We are waiting for this procedure because it will be the first time that Honduras exports its melons to Taiwan,” Huang said.
The inspection will be carried out in coordination with executives of Agrolibano and the Honduran government, specifically with personnel of the National Service of Agricultural Health (Senasa), a unit attached to the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG).
Lucas Huang anticipates that this new export product will be well received in Taiwan, which has more than 23 million inhabitants. “The Taiwanese love to eat melons,” said Huang.
According to a recent report, trade between Honduras and Taiwan has registered sustained growth in the last four years, thanks to the tariff benefits of the free trade Agreement (FTA) between both countries and the two way impulse implemented by the governments of both countries.
According to the Commercial Office of the Asian country in Central America, (CATO), from 2014 to date exports went from 44 million dollars, to more than 107 million dollars.
