HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs yesterday evening detected three suspected smuggling cases at Man Kam To Control Point and seized 994.9 kilograms of silver slabs with a total value of about $4 million.
Customs officers intercepted three incoming lorries claimed to contain vegetable for Customs clearance at Man Kam To Control Point yesterday evening. Upon inspection, officers found a total of 994.9 kilograms of unmanifested silver slabs placed inside the cargo compartments of the three lorries. Three male drivers were arrested and released on bail.
Investigation is ongoing.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for importing unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
