HONG KONG: In two separate cases, customs officers seized a total of 12 kilos of suspected drugs, including 2.3 kilos of cocaine and 9.6 kilos of cannabis resin (also known in some circles as hash).
Customs officers inspected an incoming parcel from Uruguay that was declared to contain baby’s and children’s clothes, according to a government press release.
Officers found 2.3 kilos of cocaine – worth HKD2.45 million – “soaked in some cotton pads concealed in the linings of jackets and blankets”. A for effort!
After investigating the case (which probably consisted of reading the name and address on the package), the authorities arrested a man, 29, the following day.
Meanwhile, customs officers at the airport also arrested a 27-year-old man arriving from Kolkata, India, after they found 9.6kilos of cannabis resin in his baggage.
The seized cannabis resin. Now are we sure he wasn’t smuggling cat poop?
The suspected drugs, worth about HKD660,000, were concealed in 12 “exceptionally heavy” plastic bottles.
Each arrested person will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts today.
