Hong Kong Customs seizes contraband 3kg ketamine, nabs one smuggler

HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs seized 3 kilograms of illicit ketamine and arrested drug smuggler during an anti-narcotics operation in Yuen Long here the other day.

The market value of the seizure was about $396,000.

Customs officers intercepted a man in Yuen Long around noon today and found the suspected ketamine in his backpack.

The man, aged 17, was arrested at the scene. He claimed to be unemployed and was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The arrestee will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence.

The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
