HONG KONG: Customs officers seized property worth HK$1.57 million here the other day.
officers uncovered a stash of 1,500 computer components covered in carton paper hidden inside a lorry crossing the Lok Ma Chau border checkpoint, after selecting the vehicle for a random inspection.
The driver, a 50-year-old man, had allegedly been attempting to transport the goods, valued at HK$1.57 million, into the mainland.
He was arrested and charged with attempting to export unmanifested cargo. He is due to appear at Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on June 22.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for exporting unmanifested cargo is a fine of HK$2 million and seven years’ imprisonment.
