HONG KONG: A 42-year-old man has been arrested after a cannabis farm was uncovered in a warehouse in Yuen Long.

On acting on information, Hong Kong Customs intercepted the man in Yuen Long and escorted him to a “godown” (which essentially means “warehouse” round these parts).

There, they found 75 suspected cannabis plants, which of course may still turn out to be big, bushy, non-fruit-bearing tomato plants that smell like weed.

A further 487 grams of suspected cannabis was found in the man’s car, leaving the total value of (suspected) drugs seized at HKD1.34 million.

The man, who claimed to be unemployed, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and trafficking in a dangerous drug.

The maximum penalty for cultivation of cannabis is a fine of HKD100,000 and 15 years in prison, while drug trafficking carries a maximum fine of HKD5 million and life imprisonment.

Either way, he’s pretty screwed… unless they do turn out to be tomato plants, of course.
